Vintage or blend?
The Unique Collection: The House’s Vintage Armagnacs
With La Collection Unique, each Armagnac comes from a single vintage and a single estate. It is bottled to order, without any additives (sugar, caramel, tannins) or dilution: it is offered straight from the cask, at its natural alcohol content. This approach highlights the terroir, the grape variety, and the long aging process. Each vintage is unique and possesses its own distinct character. The House’s magnificent collection of vintage Armagnacs also reflects the full richness and complexity of the Armagnac appellation.
This is our original range: in the 1960s, Francis Darroze selected his Armagnacs directly from the barrel for the family restaurant, then served them exactly as they were—straight from the barrel to the glass—highlighting the estate and the vintage. This is how the Collection Unique came to be.
Les Grands Assemblages: A Testament to the Art of Blending
With Les Grands Assemblages, the approach follows in the tradition of the great spirits houses. The goal is to create a precise aromatic profile that remains consistent over time. To achieve this, different eaux-de-vie, sourced from various terroirs and vintages, are carefully blended. Age statements (ranging from 8 to 60 years) always indicate the age of the youngest Armagnac in the blend. Each cuvée reflects a stage of aging: from fruity and lively notes in the youngest blends to deeper, time-aged profiles in the oldest Armagnacs.
What about the cellar?
In the cellar, the vintage reflects our winemaking philosophy: we distill a single wine from a single vintage, and our mission is to provide the Armagnac with the perfect aging profile so that, years later, it can be enjoyed as is, undiluted, without any alteration. The blends, meanwhile, highlight the blender’s expertise: by combining different eaux-de-vie, they craft a precise aromatic profile, with the goal of reproducing the same range of flavors year after year.
Thus, the Grands Assemblages serve as a natural introduction to the world of Armagnac, while the vintages offer a more raw and distinctive expression.
While the vintage is contemplative, the blend is unifying.
