Happy New Year ’23

In these first days of the new year, the Darroze Armagnac team and myself wish you an excellent 2023.

I would like to take advantage of these wishes to share with you the very particular situation of our company and our activity.

The world market for spirits has been booming for many years. Rum, gin, whisky, mezcal and of course Cognac are very popular and dynamic categories.

For aged spirits such as rum, whisky or Cognac, the demand is so strong, the supply so low that old spirits are reaching incredible, never before seen valuations.

Though the production of Armagnac remains more modest in quantity, the demand has also sharply increased, especially over the last 4 years (the pandemic has not at all slowed down this growth ). The artisanal production of our Gascon brandies, the very good quality/price ratio, the existence of old stocks are all assets that explain these increases.

We are therefore subject to the same consequences, and the reserves of old armagnacs are becoming scarcer. This largely explains the increase in Armagnac prices, the depletion of certain vintages and the necessary regulation in order to be able to ensure supply in the coming years.

In this context, the Darroze House works daily to continue ensuring its quality leadership. Our annual distillations allow us to prepare the coming decades. Our perfect knowledge of the Gascon terroirs facilitates the selection of rare old eaux de vie still available in the properties.

Our sales may have almost doubled in 4 years, but we continue to scour the region like antique dealers in order to maintain the largest possible offer.

2023 will be a year of great projects for the Darroze house…… but more about that in a few weeks time!

I would like to end these few words by renewing my best wishes for happiness, health and the sharing of beautiful ‘spiritual’ discoveries for 2023.

Best regards.

Marc Darroze
